India-Armenia Center of Excellence in ICT
Establishment of the Indian-Armenian Center of Excellence was discussed and agreed between the Governments of India and Armenia and set forth in the respective Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 26, 2009.
The Project overall objective is to establish a specialized infrastructure for delivery of IT-related training and R&D programs to create new opportunities for IT workforce skills development in Armenia.
The “Centre of Excellence in ICT (CoEICT)” will be equipped with a state-of-the-art High Performance Computing (HPC) Facility and focused at the following key areas:
- Advanced IT Training
- R&D activities
- Certification
- Consultancy in different areas of interest.
The Center’s goals will also include the implementation of the following activities:
- Organization of Development of specialized skills among teachers & students (Undergraduate & Postgraduate) in the field of ICT
- Organization of Advanced Level Courses in ICT to the aspiring students and professionals in Armenia
- Organization of specialized training programmes in the field of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) to the citizens of Armenia.
- Organization of training to the trainers
- Organization of Exchange of Experts Programme to Government of Armenia for assisting them in development of skilled work force in the area of ICT.
- Development of Distance Learning and E-learning Programmes
- Stimulation of collaborative R&D in the advanced areas of Science and Technology like Bio-Informatics, Telemedicine, Embedded Software, High Performance Computing, etc.
- Provision of certification in the various advanced areas of IT
- Provision of consultancy to the various government and private organizations in Armenia in the areas of IT like E-Governance, Application Development, etc.
The Project scope implies the implementation of several major activities, as follows:
Organization of training process
The courses to be delivered in the Center are targeted towards the students from varied background who aspire to make a successful career in the IT industry. The courses aim to groom the students to enable them to work on current technology scenarios as well as prepare them to keep pace with the challenging face of technology and requirements of the ever growing IT industry. The course curriculum has been designed keeping in view the emerging trends in advanced computing as well as contemporary and futuristic human resource requirements of the ICT industry of Armenia.
Collaboration in R&D projects
Along with training activities, The Center will carry out the high-end R&D activities in the state-of-the-art R&D lab, including a High Performance Computing (HPC) facility, which will provide necessary software tools needed for meaningful research and industry requirements, is also proposed in the CoEICT.
Distance Learning
The Center will provide Distance learning opportunities based on e-Sikshak learning platform to be provided by Indian partner.
The platform is characterized by the following key Features:
- Unicode based multilingual solution
- Customizable Graphical User Interface
- Supports multi media content
- Portable to MySQL and Oracle
The Center will deliver both short-term and long-term courses aimed at different target groups: general population, students, IT professionals, Government officials.
